The
"Extra Efforts Awards" were established by
the Foundation for Extra Effort©
(FEE) as a tool to motivate and reward achievers
that may otherwise go unrecognized - our
everyday heroes and those of
the future. America has
the Academy Awards, Emmys, Who's Who, and other
manner of recognizing the much celebrated, but,
there is not enough recognition of those that make
an "extra effort" to make them, their families,
their community, and others. The "Extra Effort
Awards" are for those that contribute to making this
a better world or provide inspiration to others
through their extra effort. It is for the uncommon
valor and dedication that is the backbone of America
and that which has made us great. It is for the
everyday hero - the student, athlete, fireman,
policeman, senior, housewife, factory worker, and
others who contribute everyday to making this
a better America and a better world. Through the
"There's a Winner in You Extra Effort Awards" to
them we say "There is a Winner in You."
Starting in the early 80s what
has evolved to become Salute America promoted the concept "Extra Effort
Makes a Difference" under the banner of The Foundation for
Extra Effort (FEE). FEE participated in, supported or
produced numerous events during the late 80s and early 90s.
In 1980 FEE was a principal organizer of
the world premier for the movie "The Earthling"
with William Holden
and Ricky Schroder, N.Y.P.D fame with the theme "Extra
Effort Makes a Difference." Barbi Benton, child star
Kim Fields, and numerous other stars attended the Sunset
Boulevard world premier.
In 1983, FEE produced an event for world
hunger at Fairfax High School. The event was a celebrity
basketball game with former Rams players Deacon Jones, Bubba
Smith, Preston Dennard and Johnnie Johnson. Child star Gary
Coleman, musician Brian Auger numerous others participated
in the event.
In the 80s, FEE produced an Extra Effort
Basketball League with teams sponsored by the Merv Griffin
Show, Solar Records, KJLH Radio (owned by Stevie Wonder),
Marvin Gaye and others in Los Angeles. One of the organizers
was was Flynn Robinson who played for the Lakers with Jerry
West. Lynn Swann and many others participated in press event
at the Penthouse of Donald Sterling owner of the Clippers
NBA basketball team
FEE also worked with an
organization called "World Peace Now" and participated in
Earth Day which was hosted that year by Woopie Goldberg.
The first Extra Effort
Awards for Seniors were given to 100 seniors in Los Angeles,
California in 1996 by James "Pasqual" Bettio .
In 1999, Extra Effort was a
theme for the Fitness 50+ Jamboree in Los Angeles by the
City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation.
T-Shirts for the event were design by FEE. The design
included "There's a Winner in You." FEE provided Extra
Effort Awards saying "There's a Winner in You" to
Mayor Richard J. Riordan, Carol Connors and other for
the event. Academy Award Nominee Carol Connors ("Flying High
Now" for Rocky) wrote the song entitled "There's a Winner in
You" and performed it at the event. The song is the them
song for Salute America.
Starting in 2002, we began recognizing certain
"Firsts" in the awards history. Below are listed the first
children, Fire Department and firemen, Radio and radio
broadcasters, TV news reporter, labor union, and high school
athletes. Become a first to provide or receive an Extra
Effort Award in your community as part of the "Salute
America - There's A Winner in You" Awards Campaign.

In 1996 The Foundation for Extra Effort (FEE) and
James "Pasqual" Bettio, Founder of
Sharing Friend of the Arts Hollywood International (SFAHI)
and the Park LaBrea Arts Council gave the first
"Extra Effort Awards" to 100 senior achievers.
In 2000 FEE started operating
under the banner of Salute America.
In 2001 The Foundation for Extra
Effort gave out 106 Extra Effort Awards to community
leaders in the Armenian- Russian community at the "First
Annual Armenian Russian Awards" in Los Angeles, California.
The event was televised on Armenian television.
In
2002, the first children received "Extra Effort
Awards" in Lexington, KY at the Kentucky Diamonds
Awards Banquet.
Salute America has provided
Salute America Awards at numerous event including at
"Tennessee Pride" (2003) and "American Communities of
Friendship" (2004). Both events were in conjunction with the
American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) in Oak Ridge,
Tennessee.
