HISTORICAL REENACTORS TO HONOR LOS ANGELES WITH A
SALUTE WHEN LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS
DECLARING JULY 4TH “SALUTE LOS ANGELES DAY”
LOS
ANGELES – On June 16, 2005 the Los Angeles City Council shall consider a resolution to be introduced by
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, 9th
District, and co-sponsored by Councilman Bernard
Parks, 8th District, to declare July 4th
a commemorative date to pay tribute to the City of
Los
Angeles. The Perry/Parks resolution provides that July
4th be officially declared “Salute Los
Angeles Day.”
According the Councilwoman Perry, “I am introducing
the resolution because I believe that there should be
a special day each year to pay tribute to our great
city, its history, its cultural diversity and its
trend setting creativity. July 4th is a
great day, not only because it is a date of national
pride, but, because on that day in 1847 Los Angeles
celebrated its first Independence Day.”
Councilman Parks added, “Since Los Angeles was
established it has become the most culturally diverse
city in the United States and is an example to the
world of how people from all over the world, from as
many as 125 ethnic cultures, can live and thrive
together. Angelinos should be proud of this special
place they have made in the world. July 4th
is not only about national pride, it is about
L.A. pride and unity.”
On
June 16, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., when the Perry/Huizar
resolution is introduced historical reenactors dressed
in authentic 1847 period costumes will salute the Los
Angeles City Council as a tribute to Los Angeles and
