THIS AGREEMENT is made as of this 10^th  day of January 2004 by and between organizations from LOS ANGELES, California: to wit, THE MIRACLE MILE COALITION, MUSEUM ROW, PARK LaBREA ARTS COUNCIL and THE ARTeryUSA and organizations from OAK RIDGE, Tennessee: to wit, THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND ENERGY (AMSE) and SALUTE AMERICA in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and understanding between the people, organizations and governments of the two cities.

WHEREAS, there is no official “Sister City” relationship by or between the City of Los Angeles or the City of Oak Ridge with any American city;

WHEREAS, the parties to this agreement believe that it would be beneficial to both cities and organizations thereof to promote a mutual understanding between the cities that fosters a cultural, historic, scientific and a commercial connection between the two cities and to seek to build a strong and lasting friendship between Los Angeles and Oak Ridge;

WHEREAS, the parties to this agreement are desirous of inspiring action by the City of Los Angeles and the City of Oak Ridge that would establish a formal American “Sister Cities” relationship between the two cities; and,

WHEREAS, the parties hereto are desirous of establishing an organizational connection or link between Los Angeles and Oak Ridge at this time.

NOW, THEREFORE, IN VIEW OF THE MUTUAL GOALS OF THE PARTIES, IT IS HEREBY AGREED:

1.         To work to strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and understanding between the people, organizations and governments of the two cities in a wide range of fields, including culture, arts, science, history, education and business and economic development.

2.         To work to promote mutual understanding and goodwill, and encourage exchanges between the citizens, organizations and governments of both cities.

In signing this America “Sister Cities” Organization Agreement, the parties declare mutual hope that the spirit of goodwill it contains will become a living example of the strong relationship between Los Angeles, California and Oak Ridge, Tennessee and will contribute to a cultural, historic and economic connection between the two cities.
